The Dallas Cowboys have some serious work to do this offseason if they are to recover from the embarrassment that was the 2024 season and become very competitive again.
One of the first things they will need to do is give star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is going into the final year of his current contract, an extension.
Under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Parsons will need to learn a new defensive system, but other than that and his contract situation, he said his offseason goal is to add more power to his game, per Around the NFL.
“I wanna get a little stronger. I get a little more powerful. There are some things that I wanna work on that I’m implementing into my offseason program.”

Parsons is already one of the NFL’s best edge rushers — in 2024, he posted 12.0 sacks, 23 quarterback hits, 12 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles, and he has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons in the league.
But at age 25, he still has room for improvement.
The Cowboys have even more room for improvement as a team after they ranked 31st in points allowed and 28th in total yards allowed this season and had lots of trouble stopping the run.
While they have star power on defense with Parsons and defensive backs Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, they lack the type of complementary players that are needed to turn a team into contenders.
They lack salary cap space, which will make it very difficult for them to acquire such players this offseason, and thus their work is cut out for them, no matter how much more powerful Parsons becomes.
