With MLB free agency in full swing, the New York Mets are doing everything in their power to ensure that they obtain one of the three top starting pitchers on the market.
With Jacob deGrom a free agent, the Mets have begun to explore alternatives in case he leaves for another team.
Luckily, they have a couple of fallback options ready if that takes place.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets conducted a zoom meeting with free agent lefty Carlos Rodon.
The 29-year-old won 14 games during the 2022 regular season with the San Francisco Giants and posted a 2.88 ERA.
Mets in the process of rebuilding rotation. Great lefty would be a big plus. https://t.co/el2fjTkOxB

How Rodon Fits With Mets
Rodon would be a huge addition for the Mets.
Obviously, re-signing deGrom remains the Mets highest priority, but Rodon would not be a bad addition.
Given that he is left-handed, he may be a perfect fit for the Mets, who did not have a regular left-hander in their starting rotation in 2022, save for David Peterson, who made a few spot starts.
Rodon emerged as a frontline starter last season with the Chicago White Sox.
After not receiving a qualifying offer from the South Siders, he took a two-year, $44 million contract with the San Francisco Giants that included a player opt-out clause after the first year of the deal, which of course he exercised, making him a free agent again.
A rotation that features both Rodon and Max Scherzer would be tough to beat, especially in postseason games.
Whether or not Rodon signs with the Mets will depend upon what takes place with deGrom.
