For just about every MLB batter, hitting a single will always be easier than hitting a home run.
It’s pure logic: it’s more likely to hit a ball between the shortstop and third base, or a hard line drive to center field that falls for a hit, than to send a ball 380+ feet in the air to clear the fence.
But Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is not any hitter.
He is, in many regards, a unicorn.
He strikes out a lot, he takes an incredible amount of walks, he hits lots and lots of fly balls, and he has plenty of power.
This kind of profile causes him to hit fewer singles than the average hitter, and more home runs.
However, having more homers than singles is a rarity.
Muncy falls in that category.
Max Muncy has hit 18 homers and 16 singles this year.

It’s an incredible stat, and speaks about how much power he has been showing in games this season.
Muncy is a particular hitter, but that doesn’t make him bad.
In fact, all MLB organizations would love to have a Muncy in their lineup, a guy who gets on base (.333 OBP despite a very low .203 batting average) and has premium power (.513 slugging percentage).
Believe us when we tell you that if there is an organization in Major League Baseball that knows what it is doing, it’s the Dodgers.
They are not playing Muncy nearly every day because they like his name or the way he looks or dresses: they are doing it because he is well deserving of all the playing time he can handle.
He is one of the most underrated players in baseball, and gets a lot of hate just because his batting average is not as high as most stars.
