The NBA season did not end well for the Dallas Mavericks.
After starting hot and eyeing a return to the Western Conference Finals, the Mavericks completely fell apart in their last few weeks, even with the addition of Kyrie Irving.
Therefore, fans of the team were hoping for a good offseason.
It has certainly gotten off to a strong start and Mavericks GM Nico Harrison is quite content with the way the team handled last week’s draft.
According to Mavs insider Callie Caplan, Harrison said, “We’re really excited. We feel like we killed the draft.”

So, what did the Mavericks do last week to make Harrison so happy?
The front office got rid of Davis Bertans and his hefty contract.
In addition, they also received center Dereck Lively II, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Richaun Holmes, and a lot of financial freedom for the upcoming free agency when it starts on Friday.
Caplan got into the intricate details of the Mavericks’ draft night moves for the Dallas Morning News but the bottom line is that the front office was able to set the team up for some big and important changes in the next few weeks.
This is very crucial because it’s clear something has to change.
Dallas has both Irving and Luka Doncic, one of the most impressive pairings in the entire league.
But the team still collapsed even with both of these superstars in the backcourt.
The Mavericks will need to greatly improve their defense and size during the summer.
These maneuvers during the draft allow them a lot more ability to do just that.
The Mavericks have now laid the groundwork for some big adjustments and additions.
Will they capitalize on it?
