The Dallas Mavericks seem to be having another up-and-down year, with the team at times looking like it can beat any team in the league, while also having the ability to play down to the competition and lose to any team in the NBA.
Even though superstar Luka Doncic is playing out of his mind, with the NBA MVP candidate still flying high after recently dropping a career-high 73 points on the Atlanta Hawks, the Mavericks are only four games above .500 and may need to make a move or two before the NBA trade deadline on February 8.
At this point, it does appear that the Mavericks will be looking for another star player, as they did before the deadline last year by acquiring superstar guard Kyrie Irving in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
However, they could be considering bringing back a player they sent to Brooklyn as part of that deal because they’ve noticed a significant drop-off in the defense department without him on the squad.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Mavericks are “very interested” in bringing back forward Dorian Finney-Smith and are willing to offer multiple draft picks to do so, via NBACentral.

As long as the Mavericks don’t give up too much of their future assets to bring back Finney-Smith, this would be a solid move for Dallas, as the team will hopefully get a considerable boost defensively, which has been sorely lacking over the last year or so.
It’ll be interesting to see if Dallas can get this deal done, as there are other interested teams in Finney-Smith’s services.
