The Green Bay Packers didn’t need to put up big numbers in the season opener.
They ran an effective offense, played elite defense, and made the most of the chances they had to score against the Detroit Lions.
Quarterback Jordan Love had an efficient outing, completing 16 of 22 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
However, according to head coach Matt LaFleur, the victory was all about the underrated work done by running backs Josh Jacobs and Chris Brooks.
“LaFleur said Jacobs and Brooks in pass pro vs. the Lions was the best he’s seen from RBs in the seven seasons he’s been here,” Matt Schneidman wrote on X.

Jacobs, as usual, led the Packers with 66 rushing yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. He also had one reception for four yards.
Brooks had one carry for one yard, and caught his only target for two yards.
But this wasn’t about flashy plays or big numbers, but the hard work that doesn’t show up in the stats.
Jacobs has always been a tough competitor, an every-down back who’s willing to do whatever it takes for his team to gain that extra yard, even if he’s not the one carrying the ball.
That has made him an invaluable piece of the Packers’ offense.
Green Bay will now face another tough challenge at home on “Thursday Night Football.”
It will host the Washington Commanders on a short week, and the running game and pass protection will be crucial again.
Judging by what the Packers showed in their first game, they should be just fine.
