The Chicago Bears can shape how the 2024 NFL Draft will unfold as they hold the No. 1 overall pick.
Chicago owns the rights to the first pick for the second year in a row, though this year presents a unique challenge as the best player in the draft is widely considered to be USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
Normally, teams would be ecstatic at the chance to draft someone as talented and gifted as Williams but Chicago already has a young quarterback on the roster in Justin Fields.
Fields is a former first-round pick himself and has shown flashes with the Bears, but his inconsistency as a passer leaves many to assume that the team will look to trade him and take Williams for themselves.
There are no signs that a trade is on the horizon, but as the days go by it feels likely that Fields will be on a different team in 2024.
Head coach Matt Eberflus acknowledged that he and the team will be as transparent as possible with Fields via Sirius XM NFL Radio.
“As soon as we know, we’re going to let him know,’ Eberflus said.

The draft is nearly two months away, so a resolution on Fields’ future in Chicago could happen soon.
Free agency is also another factor to consider as teams that could be interested in trading for Fields could simply sign one and save their draft capital.
However, there will definitely be teams intrigued with the idea of adding a quarterback like Fields who has upside.
