The New York Yankees have a long track record of getting the best out of their players.
That was certainly the case when they picked up longtime Cardinal Matt Carpenter last season.
Carpenter was released from the Texas Rangers where he was playing on their Triple-A team to join the Yankees.
According to YES Network, Carpenter thought his career was over until he got a call from the Yankees.

Once Carpenter was given an opportunity to play every day in New York he was fantastic.
In 47 games he batted a .305 and hit 15 home runs.
His resurgence was something that no one saw coming and he was a difference-maker in New York.
Everything he accomplished with the Yankees led to Carpenter getting a contract with the Padres for the 2023 season.
In total, the deal could be worth up to $21 million if Carpenter exercises his player option for the 2024 season.
For a player that thought he was going to be out of baseball, that is not a bad deal.
Carpenter has gotten off to a slow start this year.
He is hitting a measly .203 and has three home runs with 17 RBIs.
But that is only through the first 30 games.
He has been known to get hot for stretches and carry teams like he did in New York.
Once he gets settled into San Diego, it would not be a surprise to see him start hitting the ball much better.
The resurgence of the former three-time All-Star is what makes baseball so special.
