The Miami Marlins, with their ace injured and against all odds, are still fighting for a spot in the postseason even with a below-average offense.
Their 78-73 record is good enough to put them just half a game out of a playoff spot.
There are five teams vying for two spots in the National League Wild Card landscape, and the Marlins are one of them.
They were in the mix for some of the hitters that made it to waivers in recent weeks, but lost out on all of them.
On Tuesday, however, MLB insider Jeff Passan announced that the Fish are adding a potentially impactful arm to their bullpen: Matt Moore.
“The Miami Marlins claimed left-handed reliever Matt Moore off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians, sources tell ESPN. Moore had joined Cleveland off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels earlier this month. He will not be postseason-eligible if the Marlins snag a wild-card spot,” Passan tweeted.

Moore started the year with the Los Angeles Angels, where he had a 2.66 ERA in 44 innings.
He was waived by the Halos when it became clear they wouldn’t be making the playoffs, and the Cleveland Guardians snagged him.
In Cleveland, Moore posted a 3.86 ERA in 4.2 frames, but with a ghastly 2.36 WHIP.
He might not be in his prime, but Moore is a solid left-hander with proven success as a reliever in the last two seasons.
He could potentially help the Marlins protect leads in the late innings.
The only downside to this move is that if the Marlins make it into October, Moore is ineligible to play.
Still, it’s a worthwhile gamble.
