Indianapolis Colts fans didn’t know what to think of their favorite team coming into the season.
There was a very public quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson, but considering Richardson’s draft capital, many figured he’d win the job, even though he was recovering from injuries.
It turns out that this capital didn’t matter to the coaching staff, as they rolled out Jones in Week 1, which has proven to be a great decision.
Jones has, somewhat surprisingly compared to expectations, risen to the occasion and made the most of his opportunity.
The Colts are now 2-0, and their offense is flowing better than it has in some time.
Analysts have been trying to figure out what’s different for Jones this time around, considering he’s been on a few teams to this point in his career.
Marcus Spears talked through this in a recent segment of the NFL on ESPN, indicating that Jones’ past is helping him in a new destination.
“We’ve look at Shane Steichen as a guy that can build and mold quarterbacks. You take Anthony Richardson in the draft, can’t develop him, but the difference with Daniel Jones is he’s been in the wars. He’s been in that situation of not being in a great situation at times, figuring that out, and also knowing what you don’t need to do. Sometimes, it’s about what I don’t do well and keep me away from that,” Spears said.

Things didn’t end up working for Jones in New York or Minnesota, but it was the perfect storm for him to walk into in Indianapolis, and he’s certainly making the most of his third chance in the league.
The Colts are rolling, and they don’t have a truly difficult team on their schedule until they play the Los Angeles Chargers in five weeks.
It will be interesting to see how Jones and this team perform against a high-caliber defense like the Chargers and whether they can keep their hot streak alive.
