The New York Giants are facing a pivotal decision at quarterback following Daniel Jones’ departure last season.
Armed with the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming draft, they’re well-positioned to select a rookie signal-caller.
Yet, GM Joe Schoen is keeping all options open when it comes to their draft strategy, with free agency in March potentially offering veteran alternatives.
Amidst these crucial decisions, rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has stepped forward with his perspective on the team’s quarterback situation.
Speaking on PFT Live Wednesday, Nabers expressed flexibility regarding the Giants’ quarterback search, stating he has “no preference” on their approach.
His primary concern is finding someone capable of leading both on the field and in the locker room.
However, Nabers did stress one important point – if the Giants opt for a rookie quarterback, having a veteran presence would be crucial.
“I would want to have a vet in there,” Nabers said. “If we decide to pick a rookie, in my eye I would want a vet to be in that same room with that rookie teaching him some stuff so when he’s out there — he’s not just out there in his head [thinking] he has to be the savior of this team. That’s a lot to put on a rookie.”
Despite dealing with inconsistent quarterback play during his rookie season, Nabers managed to showcase his potential as a playmaker.
Looking ahead to 2025, both he and the Giants are hoping for improved quarterback performance.
Currently, backup Tommy DeVito stands as the lone quarterback on their roster, making it virtually certain the team will add at least one more signal-caller this offseason.
The Giants appear likely to make multiple moves at quarterback, though whether they’ll follow Nabers’ suggested approach of pairing a veteran with a potential rookie remains to be seen.
