The Los Angeles Lakers need some of the youngsters to step up.
Their inability to land barely any reinforcements in free agency has left them in a tough spot leading to the season.
Dalton Knecht looks like a plug-and-play scorer, but it might take a little more than that to help J.J. Redick find success in his first season as a coach.
Notably, Magic Johnson believes Bronny James could also play a big role on this team.
Following all the mockery and backlash Bronny got, the legendary point guard took to X to show his support for LeBron James’ firstborn.
He even claimed that with some hard work, it wouldn’t take long before Bronny is out there playing heavy minutes for the Lakers (via Legion Hoops).
“I believe after a lot of hard work this season, he’ll definitely be in the Lakers’ rotation and playing heavy minutes.”

That could spell trouble for the Lakers if that’s the case.
Bronny isn’t anywhere close to ready right now, and he might need at least a season of development before being able to play impactful minutes there.
His shot isn’t falling, his offensive decision-making has been erratic, and while he’s strong and very athletic, he still needs to bulk up to handle the physicality and burden of a full NBA season.
Bronny would’ve benefitted from staying in college for another season.
He has the potential to be an impactful defender and even a solid secondary ball-handler.
But the Lakers should expect to compete for a championship for as long as James and Anthony Davis are out there, so they might not be able to afford to wait for him to grow through his mistakes.
