The Los Angeles Lakers are transitioning into a new era.
As such, GM Rob Pelinka wants to make sure that Luka Doncic has everything he needs to thrive.
That’s why, even though the trade was eventually rescinded, the Slovenian star was reportedly still very impressed with Pelinka’s ability to get a deal done so swiftly, according to NBA insider Marc Stein (via Legion Hoops).

Unfortunately, Williams’ failed physical sent him right back to the Charlotte Hornets, with the Lakers getting star rookie Dalton Knecht back.
The veto took place after the deadline, so they couldn’t find any potential replacement.
The Lakers had to turn to Alex Len in the free-agent market to add another big man, but he hasn’t been an impactful player in years.
Besides the recently acquired Len, the Lakers only have Jaxson Hayes as a true center on their roster, and that’s not going to get the job done in the playoffs, especially considering Hayes’ injury woes.
Nevertheless, Pelinka still managed to score some points with his new superstar.
For years, he’s been under heavy fire for allowing LeBron James to have such a big input on the roster.
Then again, reports claim that he didn’t even consult with LeBron about potentially trading Anthony Davis to get Doncic.
Now, the power dynamic will ultimately have to change with a new Sheriff in town.
Doncic is the future of the franchise, and as such, the team will build the roster around him.
