Ricky Rubio made it to the NBA as a teenager, and it’s crazy to think that he spent half of his life playing professional basketball.
Rubio was one of the most exciting passers in the game during his days with the Minnesota Timberwolves, making Magic Johnson-like passes, handing out no-look dimes, faking out defenders, and putting on a show night in and night out, even on a losing team.
He had a great career with his national team and was a beloved and respected member of the league during his multiple stops, a pass-first kind of guard who could never shake off injury woes.
He had made the news for taking some time off this season to work on his mental health, and he’s now finally announced his retirement.
Being a former Cleveland Cavalier himself, LeBron James was asked about Rubio’s retirement after their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
However, James was honest about the matter and claimed that he simply wasn’t in the mood to talk about Rubio’s retirement or anything else because his team had just been humiliated again (via Dave McMenamin and Legion Hoops):
“I’m not really in the mood to answer that question. But I respect Ricky. Congrats on a hell of a career. If I don’t seem sincere in this video it’s because we just got our a** whooped again,” James said.

James did congratulate Rubio but claimed that he didn’t want to sound like a hypocrite or non-honest because he wasn’t in the mood.
There’s a crisis brewing with the Los Angeles Lakers, and it doesn’t sound like things can get right any time soon.
Darvin Ham might be walking on thin ice, and LeBron’s attitude won’t do much to help their cause.
