On Thursday, reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers officially committed to Team USA for the 2024 Olympics, which will be played in Paris, France.
Embiid’s commitment means three NBA superstars are ready to compete for head coach Steve Kerr next summer, as Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant have also said they’ll play for the team.
With these three superstars prepared to represent the United States against the best of the best the rest of the world has to offer, the attention turns back to four-time NBA champion LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who has hinted at wanting to play for Team USA next summer.
After Lakers practice on Thursday, James was asked about Embiid playing and what his thoughts were on his choice to do so, via Daniel Starkand of Lakers Nation and Bleacher Report.

Clearly, James is happy about Embiid committing to play with Team USA rather than playing for France or Cameroon, but he wasn’t ready to give his full commitment, which the reporters in Los Angeles were definitely fishing for on Thursday.
Over the course of the next few months, it’ll be interesting to see what other players around the league also commit to Team USA and how stacked of a roster this may turn out to be.
Only time will tell how it all pans out for Team USA, as injuries will happen during the upcoming season, which could change how the roster looks now until the time when players have to officially commit.
