After an NFL record six quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, a lot of attention was given to these promising young players, with the consensus being that quite a few of these incoming quarterbacks could be Week 1 starters.
Ultimately, three of these six rookie quarterbacks were given the nod to start right out of the gate to begin their NFL careers, with Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders) and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos) getting their opportunity to prove their worth immediately.
There’s a chance that JJ McCarthy would’ve also been a starter for the Minnesota Vikings, but he went down with a season-ending injury in the NFL preseason, ending his rookie campaign before it began.
Although Williams received the bulk of the attention from these rookie quarterbacks, the Washington Commanders’ new face of the franchise has been the best of the bunch thus far.
Daniels has been better than advertised in the first five weeks of the 2024 NFL season, as he has led the Commanders to four wins in the first five games while being highly productive and efficient on the football field.
According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens has been taking notice of Daniels’ remarkable play this year and shared his reaction to seeing the rookie succeed.
“Man, he’s going off,” Jackson said.

With Jackson being a mobile quarterback who can get it done on the ground and through the air while also being successful right out of the gate to start his NFL career with the Ravens, the two-time NFL MVP can relate to Daniels and is clearly impressed by what he’s seen from the Commanders rookie.
As long as Daniels can stay healthy and productive on the field, the Commanders have a legitimate shot of making the NFL playoffs this season and perhaps winning the NFC East division title.
