All reports suggest that Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers want to keep working together.
To make that happen, the Lakers need to offer Davis a major contract extension.
It sounds like that is exactly what is going to happen.
According to Dan Woike, per NBACentral, the Lakers have a “strong interest” in offering Davis a contract extension worth $170 million over three years.
That would be the maximum extension that many people were expecting.
Both sides can formally start talking on Friday and there is a good chance this deal could be done by the start of the weekend.

On paper, $170 million over three years feels like a lot of money.
That’s because it is a lot of money.
Yet, it’s also not surprising considering how important Davis has become to the Lakers.
He is the second-most vital player on the team, behind only LeBron James.
If the Lakers were coming off of an awful season, they maybe wouldn’t be thinking about giving Davis such an enormous deal.
However, they feel like they have a good thing going and they want to keep it.
For his part, Davis won’t agree to something that doesn’t give him multiple years and a hefty paycheck.
He is an aging player who has a tendency to get injured.
Therefore, he wants to make sure he is getting paid and is secure with his team for the long term.
Concerns about those possible injuries surely played through LA’s front office.
At the same time, they are willing to do what it takes to retain the team they have now, even with fears of more physical problems looming.
For weeks now, fans have wanted to see how much faith the Lakers have in Davis.
If the rumors of this upcoming contract are correct, it looks like they have quite a bit.
