LeBron James has played for multiple teams in the NBA and has had a huge impact on each of them.
His current team, the Los Angeles Lakers, won a championship a few years ago under James’ leadership.
Therefore, it stands to reason that LA might retire his number when he retires.
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss said that is absolutely the plan.
According to NBA on TNT, Buss has confirmed that the Lakers will retire James’ jersey in the future.
“The standard for having your jersey retired as a Laker is when a player is inducted into the Hall of Fame…he will have his Lakers jersey retired, no doubt about it,” Buss said.

As of now, it’s not clear which number from James will hang in the rafters.
He has worn two while in LA, both the number 23 and 6.
He has recently confirmed that he will switch back to 23 in the upcoming season, so it is probable that will be the jersey that is retired at Crypto.com Arena.
He said he is switching back out of respect for the late Bill Russell, who always wore number six.
Both of Kobe Bryant’s numbers, 8 and 24, were retired by the team but it’s unlikely the same will be true for James.
It will be a huge honor for iconic star because the Lakers have been very selective about the stars they honor in this way.
The Lakers have retired 12 different jerseys over the years.
The most recent time this happened was for big man Pau Gasol, who had his jersey hung back in March.
The upcoming season will mark James’ sixth with the Lakers, which is his second-longest tenure yet.
