It’s nice to see NBA players respect and celebrate their peers, even though they are opponents.
And Westbrook is surely happy to get such adoration from Irving, especially after the last few seasons he has had.
Westbrook faced a very rocky time during his stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.
After the blockbuster acquisition of him, it quickly became clear that Westbrook didn’t work well within LA’s rotation.
New head coach Darvin Ham tried to change things up last season and turned Westbrook into a bench player.
He was able to produce more as a leader of the second unit but he still wasn’t working as fans had wanted.
During that time, he faced endless ridicule and nasty headlines.
He also heard a few boos from the fans too.
He ultimately parted ways with the Lakers and now plays for the Clippers.
Westbrook seems much happier with that team – and more productive too.
Irving knows a thing or two about not fitting in with a team and he also knows what it’s like to get lambasted by the fans.
All of that makes him relate to Westbrook, and respect him even more.
