After falling just short of winning the Super Bowl last season, the San Francisco 49ers were expected to be a legitimate contender right out of the gate to start the 2024 NFL season.
Unfortunately, San Francisco has gotten off to a rocky start, with injuries being to blame for most of their struggles.
Superstar running back Christian McCaffrey has yet to play a game, and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk went down with a season-ending knee injury in a Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch.
Already without arguably two of their best offensive weapons, the 49ers might not have wide receiver Deebo Samuel for their Week 8 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys because he’s battling an illness that required him to be hospitalized.
However, head coach Kyle Shanahan isn’t ruling out Samuel playing against the Cowboys at Levi’s Stadium.
“Pneumonia. He’s out of the hospital. He got in here yesterday. He’s doing better than you’d expect with that stuff. We’ll see how he goes throughout the week,” Shanahan said, via 95.7 The Game.

The 49ers head into Week 8 sporting a 3-4 record and desperately needing to bounce back after two losses in their past three games.
If Samuel can play, San Francisco will have a better chance of coming out on top, but it remains to be seen if he’ll get cleared and be anywhere near 100 percent.
