The San Francisco 49ers truly found a diamond in the rough in Brock Purdy during the 2022 NFL Season.
After injuries to both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, Purdy was forced into action.
He made the most of this unexpected starting role, leading the 49ers to the NFC Championship, where he tore his UCL.
Purdy’s status has been questionable for much of the offseason, but Kyle Shanahan’s latest update gives plenty of reason for optimism.
According to 49ers reporter Akash Anavarathan, Shanahan said, “I was really impressed with him in his two practices.”
Kyle Shanahan on Brock Purdy:
"I think he's done great. He has come back. He's had no arm troubles. He's been totally healthy. I think he's getting all his timing back, his rhythm. I was really impressed with him in his two practices."

Shanahan also commented on Purdy’s rhythm and timing, saying, “He’s had no arm troubles.”
If Shanahan’s comments are any indication, Purdy might just work his way back into the starting role with the 49ers.
This is a far cry from being Mr. Irrelevelant, the final pick in the NFL Draft.
Purdy’s rookie campaign already defied significant odds, given the historical lack of success from the Mr. Irrelevants that have come before him.
Can he defy more odds this season, coming back from a UCL injury and getting his job back?
Trey Lance and Sam Darnold are also fighting for this role, which could put a damper on Purdy’s odds.
However, Lance is coming off an injury of his own, and Darnold’s career hasn’t exactly yielded the expectations that were placed upon him.
Despite draft capital, which usually rules in situations like this, the 49ers have given Purdy a lot of praise over the past several months.
Will he be their starter when the season begins?
