The San Francisco 49ers entered the season as the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl.
After all, they were coming off an appearance in the game, narrowly losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite the preseason expectations, however, the 49ers haven’t quite lived up to their typical standards.
They currently hold a 4-4 record, which is tied for second place in the NFC West.
While this is a far cry from what people believed about this team heading into the season, most of their woes are explainable.
The 49ers have faced numerous injuries to some of their top players, especially on offense.
Christian McCaffrey is one of the most significant to miss time, as he, when healthy, is an x-factor in the passing and running game.
He hasn’t played a snap all season, but that’s reportedly slated to change, according to Kyle Shanahan’s latest comments via Josina Anderson on X.
McCaffrey is supposedly making his debut this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This couldn’t have come at a better time for the 49ers, who need every win they can get to have a better chance at making the playoffs, perhaps even winning the division.
They have a talented team when healthy, and McCaffrey’s return should inject some life into this otherwise lackluster offense.
Brock Purdy hasn’t looked like an MVP candidate thus far, but perhaps he’ll kick into gear when his trusty sidekick in the backfield returns to the fold, hopefully opening up more room in the passing attack.
