It was an ominous start for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Despite having signed Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos to go next to Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, and Rhys Hoskins, the Phils were slumping.
However, after their 22-29 start, they made a drastic change, firing manager Joe Girardi and putting bench coach Rob Thomson in charge.
The Phillies have clawed back into contention since making the move.
In June, things have been a lot different for the Phillies, who sit at 37-34, only 2.5 games back of the third NL Wild Card.
Schwarber has largely carried the load for this Phillies team, especially in the month of June, and Phillies insider John Clark tweeted that after Schwarber’s 20th home run of the year, he is on pace to finish with 46.
Kyle Schwarber hits his 20th HR last night. One pace for 46 HRs
He is tied for the National League lead with Pete Alonso

Schwarber On Fire
Schwarber is carrying these Phillies right now.
The stats presented by Clark are mind-boggling.
He has nine home runs in the month of June and is now tied with New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso for the National League lead in homers.
He’s also tied with Aaron Judge for the most home runs in baseball during this month.
That’s a little something called a power surge.
The Phillies needed to get going again.
They’re back to their winning ways and Schwarber is largely carrying the load for them as they try to get back in the playoff race.
Last season with the Washington Nationals and the Boston Red Sox, Schwarber hit 32 blasts.
His career-high came in 2019 when he hit 38 dingers with the Chicago Cubs.
He is on pace to shatter that record by a ton.
We’ll see if he can stay hot and continue to lead these Phillies.
