After his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, NFL fans wondered if Kliff Kingsbury would ever find a job in the NFL again.
He was highly regarded coming into Arizona, but things quickly went south with that organization, and he was fired after four seasons.
Kingsbury received an opportunity to join USC’s staff in 2023 and was reportedly instrumental in Caleb Williams’ development.
This praise helped get him back into the NFL, and he’s received acclaim for helping turn the Washington Commanders’ ship around on the offensive side of the ball.
Because of his success this season, Kingsbury’s name has been thrown around in the head coaching circuit, with many wondering if he’d get another opportunity to redeem himself after the debacle in Arizona.
While his name has been mentioned, Ian Rapoport recently noted on X that Kingsbury has elected to hold off on any interviews until the playoffs are done for the Commanders.
This is true. It increases the chances that Kliff Kingsbury returns to the #Commanders as OC for next year. https://t.co/s9i9ipgf2y

His exact reasoning is unknown, but he might just be keeping his sole focus on the Commanders, hoping to keep his eyes on the prize.
This team wasn’t supposed to get to the divisional round based on preseason expectations, and at this point, Kingsbury and the coaching staff are playing with house money.
Staying out of the interview circuit could cost Kingsbury some opportunities, and as Schefter noted, this increases his chances of staying with the Commanders during the 2025 season.
He could elect to go the Ben Jonnson route, who stayed in Detroit this year despite getting numerous looks during the offseason.
Whatever happens, Kingsbury’s status in the NFL has certainly increased over the past year.
