Today, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors are known as one of the best duos in the history of the NBA.
Together, they have won four championships, reignited basketball culture in the Bay Area, and quite literally changed how many people view the sport.
But would you believe that when they first got together they didn’t even talk to each other?
That’s the surprising tidbit that Thompson revealed on the latest episode of “Podcast P” with Paul George.
“I don’t think me and Steph said a word to each other the first year, to be honest,” Thompson said.
He mentioned that he didn’t want to step on the toes of any veterans (Curry joined the league two years before) and mostly kept to himself and just tried to get minutes.
Thompson’s first season was a tricky one.
The 2011-12 season was cut short due to the NBA lockout, so he had fewer chances to shine.
Additionally, he wasn’t getting many minutes because he had yet to prove himself.
He wouldn’t have received much one-on-one time with Curry anyway because Curry only appeared in 26 games due to foot injuries and surgery.
Thompson admits that it wasn’t until a few years later that he and Curry finally hit it off.
They spent some time together off the basketball court playing a different sport: golf.
During their experiences on the green, they grew closer and Thompson started to truly realize how special his teammate was.
Unsurprisingly, that was around the time when the Warriors began to storm the West and make strong playoff runs.
They are now the Splash Brothers and are feared by teams across the league.
But just a little more than ten years ago, these two weren’t even talking.
