The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a 2022 campaign in which they dominated during the regular season, with Kirk Cousins and company finishing with a record of 13-4 and an NFC North division title.
Although the Vikings were a dominant team and expected to do big things in the NFL playoffs, Minnesota was sent back down to earth quickly in the NFC Wildcard Game against the New York Giants, who pulled off a major upset on the road.
Obviously, that playoff loss was a costly blow for Minnesota, with the team believing it could make it to the Super Bowl and potentially win it all.
With the playoff loss still fresh and training camp looming, the attention has turned to the long-term future for Cousins in Minnesota and his contract situation with the team.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, it appears that Cousins will head into the 2023 NFL season without a new deal and will play out the last year of his contract with the team before becoming a free agent next year.

This is likely a wise decision for both sides, as it motivates Cousins to play the best football he possibly can during the 2023 campaign and gives the team a chance to part ways if things don’t work out.
With superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson taking his game to another level every year, the Vikings won’t want to waste the prime of their best player and will want the best possible quarterback they can get under center.
It remains to be seen if that quarterback will continue to be Cousins after this upcoming season.
