The biggest surprise in the NBA last season was arguably the Sacramento Kings going from a team that always seemed to finish near the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference with the longest playoff drought in the league to the No. 3 seed.
Somehow, head coach Mike Brown, who went on to win NBA Coach of the Year, was able to get this team back on track, with De’Aaron Fox taking another step toward superstardom and Domantas Sabonis proving to be the perfect sidekick in Sacramento.
Even though a lot of people doubted the Kings’ ability to be a real force to be reckoned with in the NBA playoffs, Fox and company were able to take the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors to seven games in the first round.
Despite being unable to get the best of Stephen Curry’s squad in the series, the Kings proved to be the real deal, and this season, they want to take another giant leap forward, finishing even higher in the West standings, according to Kings general manager Monte McNair via The Athletic.
Six months ago, the Kings’ dream season slipped away by the slimmest of margins, with Sacramento falling to the defending champion Warriors in seven games.

With the Kings able to keep the roster more or less intact for the 2023-24 NBA season, Sacramento has a chance to do something special this year if they can have a repeat performance of last year.
The only thing standing in the way for Fox and his squad is the fact the West got that much better over the summer, meaning the competition will be tougher and will put this team to the test on a nightly basis.
