The Phoenix Suns were one of the first teams to feel Victor Wembanyama’s wrath and impact.
Earlier in the season, the No. 1 pick put on a show, dominating Kevin Durant and the star-studded Suns for a big win.
This time, however, the French star didn’t get the last laugh.
The Suns dominated the San Antonio Spurs en route to an easy double-digit win at home, dooming Gregg Popovich’s team.
Following the game, the Suns star talked about how much of a team effort it took to stop the reigning No. 1 selection (via Duane Rankin).
“It was a team effort,” Durant said on defending Wembanyama.
The Spurs haven’t been good at all this season, but Wembanyama is clearly special.
He alters everything on the court when he’s lurking around the paint, with players literally refusing to challenge him at the rim or even attempting a layup when he’s a couple of feet away from the basket.
"I love playing. I don't really be tripping, but it's always good to see us play good, solid ball from 1st quarter to the 4th."
Kevin Durant as Suns led by as many as 32 and never trailed in 131-106 win over Spurs.

His impact doesn’t always reflect on the stat sheet, especially on defense, but he’s a difference-maker by all means.
The Spurs need to do a better job of surrounding him with talent, and the players must make the most of his size advantage and unique skills, which has also been a major issue for most of the season.
Even so, and despite his team’s woes and evident struggles, the Frenchman has had a rookie season for the ages, being a perennial candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.
The present isn’t that good in San Antonio, but the future is definitely quite encouraging.
