The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the best teams in the league during the 2024 NFL season.
They entered their Week 17 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys with a chance to clinch the NFC East.
The Eagles didn’t have Jalen Hurts available after he was ruled out with a concussion, so the team started Kenny Pickett in his place.
Pickett took over Hurts last week in the loss to the Washington Commanders but got the nod against the Cowboys, who have also been trotting out their backup in Cooper Rush with Dak Prescott out for the year.
Given all of Dallas’ injuries, rolling out Pickett wasn’t the worst thing for Philadelphia, which took control of the game early.
While Pickett did well managing the offense and keeping it on schedule, he was far from perfect as a passer.
For example, he had an embarrassing play where he nearly lost a fumble on a routine dropback via Savage.

Early in the second quarter on 2nd-and-5, Pickett drops back to pass and appears ready to launch the football downfield.
However, he keeps the football in his hand mid-throw after presumably seeing a defender late and falls while the football comes out.
It was a hilarious moment with fans on social media cackling.
It’s a prime example of why it’s hard to buy into Pickett as a legitimate NFL starter.
While the Eagles are well on their way to winning the game, it’s a stark reminder that a quality backup quarterback is worth investing in.
