Despite a quiet offseason, few around Major League Baseball expected the St. Louis Cardinals to be where they currently are in the standings.
Just one month into the season, they find themselves 10 games back of first place.
The starting pitching has been an issue, the offense has been inconsistent, and the bullpen has been taxed.
As things stand, St. Louis is 10-19 and owns the second-worst record in the National League.
On Monday, FOX Sports analysts Chris Myers and Ken Rosenthal discussed the Cardinals’ ugly start, with Rosenthal breaking down what has gone wrong and how they can fix things going forward.

Rosenthal noted that the Cardinals likely aren’t panicking and are still confident they can turn things around.
However, he also noted that there are several warning signs to be aware of, starting with the fact that it’s only May and they already find themselves in a 10-game hole in the NL Central.
Rosenthal stated that he believes the Pittsburgh Pirates will come back down to Earth at some point, and the St. Louis offense will begin to produce at a higher level.
Still, as many around the game are aware, the starting pitching has been an issue, as the Cardinals are 21st in MLB with a shocking 4.94 ERA.
Veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright will soon return from the injured list with a likely start against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
However, Rosenthal believes that unless the rotation improves — or the Cardinals make an attempt to add some pieces — the 2023 season may be a lost cause.
