Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns has been all over the news lately, but not for positive reasons.
Towns had plenty of controversial takes to share in his latest appearance on Patrick Beverley’s podcast, even saying that people will say he changed the game when he retires.
Notably, the former No. 1 pick didn’t stop there, and he’s likely to face even more criticism, backlash, and mockery after stating that he could average 40 points per game if the team allowed him to call his own plays.
“If you let me call the plays, I can go get you 40 anytime I want.”

There’s no one who can deny that Towns is a gifted offensive player.
He’s a much better shooter than the average big man, and his face-up game is quite solid.
He also has the physical tools to bully his way to the rim — although he often struggles against stronger, more physical big men.
But he’s not averaging 40 points per game in this league, let alone calling his own plays.
That’s a disrespectful statement toward his coaches and his teammates, pretty much implying they’re holding him back.
Truth be told, the Timberwolves have never won a playoff series with him on the court, and he’s got a 4-12 record in the postseason.
A lot of that has been on his shoulders, also, as he’s been torched on defense more often than not.
Also, his career average drops to 18 points on 47% shooting in the playoffs as opposed to the almost 21 and 50% he averages in the regular season.
Towns isn’t even the best player on his team anymore, and all this talking could backfire big time next season.
