With star defensive tackle Chris Jones out due to a contract holdout and Travis Kelce forced to sit due to a knee injury, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs headed into a Week 1 showdown with the Detroit Lions shorthanded and hoping to steal one against a hungry team led by Jared Goff.
Unfortunately, despite a valiant effort by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs couldn’t get the best of the Lions, who came away with a one-point victory.
One of the main reasons for the loss to the Lions was the Kansas City receivers struggling to catch the ball, which was more often than not placed in the perfect play to make the reception by Mahomes.
One player who had arguably the worst game last Thursday was wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who caught one pass for one yard on five targets with three crucial drops, which most believe cost them the game.
With Toney more or less being the scapegoat for the loss to the Lions, he’s been getting roughed up by New York Giants fans as well as by pundits like Pat McAfee, who the Chiefs receiver just went at on social media, via Dov Kleiman.
Kadarius Toney isn't just going after #Giants fans, he's going after Pat McAfee now too.
"You just another goofy… chill"
You'd think 3 drops and costing your team a win will teach Toney a lesson on staying quiet but oh well…https://t.co/OTLq3e9mDw pic.twitter.com/wBTCePf6PT

Sometimes, the best thing to do after having an awful performance that cost your team the game is to stay quiet no matter what is being thrown your way on social media or on talk shows, but Toney didn’t go in that direction, which could prove costly.
If Toney doesn’t turn things around in Week 2 or in the near future, he’ll continue to get mocked, and that could be a hard thing to bounce back from, especially when you are dealing with the pressure of being a defending Super Bowl champion.
