The San Antonio Spurs had one of the most dominant players in the history of the league.
Throughout his entire career, Tim Duncan was a major driving force on both ends of the floor, but he didn’t talk as often as other superstars, and San Antonio was never the biggest market as well.
Perhaps that’s the only reason why we don’t hear his name being included in the GOAT conversation as often as it should.
That’s not the case with Julius Erving, though.
In a recent chat with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Dr. J made a case for Duncan being a top-five player in the history of the game, and he’s right on point (via Legion Hoops).
Dr. J on Tim Duncan:
“When you start doing all-time players and picking your top five, your top 10 or your top 15 whatever, Tim Duncan needs to show up in that conversation.”

Even if he shockingly was never named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, Duncan made it to 15 All-Defensive teams.
He was a 15-time All-Star, a multi-time MVP and Finals MVP, an All-Star Game MVP, Rookie of the Year, and a five-time NBA champion.
Moreover, Duncan was one defensive rebound away from going 6-0 in the NBA Finals, just like Michael Jordan.
The Big Fundamental was never flashy or spectacular, and he was by no means a trash talker.
But Duncan was an efficient scorer and a lockdown defender throughout his entire career, and his durability was also one of the main reasons why the Spurs were able to build such a strong dynasty.
Hopefully, time will give Duncan its rightful place in NBA rankings, and it’s about time people stop overlooking him when talking about the best ever.
