The Arizona Cardinals have a gaping hole at the quarterback position thanks to the torn ACL that will sideline Kyler Murray for at least part of this season.
Some feel Joshua Dobbs is bound to be their interim quarterback, yet new head coach Jonathan Gannon has been coy about publicly naming a starter for their Week 1 contest at the Washington Commanders.
Dobbs himself won’t say if he will be starting under center on Sunday, per ProFootballTalk.

“If I am the guy,” Dobbs said purposefully, via Darren Urban of the team website, “then I’ll be excited to go out and perform the way I can perform, represent the Cardinals and lead the team.”
Arizona’s only other option to start at QB right now is Clayton Tune, who was a fifth-round selection in April’s draft from the University of Houston.
Dobbs was a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he has played in a grand total of eight regular season games, two of which he has started, while throwing for 456 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in those eight contests.
One way or another, it seems the Cardinals are doomed to be a terrible team this year, even if Murray is able to return for a few games late in the schedule.
Stud wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins departed to join the Tennessee Titans, and there isn’t a ton of hope their defense will pick up the slack, especially after the retirement of star defensive end J.J. Watt.
The glimmer of hope is that Arizona could have a good chance of earning the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft and getting to draft Caleb Williams, the standout QB at the University of Southern California.
