The Washington Commanders have put an end to ongoing speculation about their team name, with majority owner Josh Harris firmly shutting down any hopes of a future rebrand.
Harris recently made it abundantly clear that Commanders is here to stay, answering a vocal group of fans who have been pushing for a return to the team’s previous identity.
Directly questioned about the permanence of the name, Harris didn’t miss a beat.
“I think it’s now embraced been by our team, by our culture, by our coaching staff. So we’re going with that,” Harris said, via NBC4 Sports.

Harris, who took over in 2023, purchased a franchise already midway through a controversial name change initiated by former owner Dan Snyder in 2020.
The final rebrand wasn’t completed until 2022, leaving a segment of fans dissatisfied and hopeful for yet another transformation.
While Harris’ recent comments remain somewhat nuanced, he suggested another path forward that might honor the team’s rich history.
He hinted at potentially incorporating elements of the franchise’s past through classic uniforms or throwback logos, rather than a complete name overhaul.
Coming off an appearance in the NFC Championship Game, the team’s commitment to the Commanders name appears resolute.
Harris seems focused on building a new identity while respecting the franchise’s legacy, effectively closing the door on further naming debates.
