The Miami Marlins were busy this year at the trade deadline, with one of their biggest acquisitions being Josh Bell, who came over from the Cleveland Guardians.
Bell has not skipped a beat since leaving Cleveland and joining the Marlins.
In fact, he has played just 18 games in a Marlins uniform but has already hit seven home runs with his new team.
He hit his seventh in Monday night’s series opener against the San Diego Padres.
That ultimately tied him for an elite mark in Marlins history.
Charles Johnson hit seven home runs in his first 18 games with the team back in 2001, and Bell matched him on Monday.
On Twitter, Sarah Langs took note of Bell’s recent accomplishment.
most HR in 1st 18 games with Marlins:
2023 Josh Bell: 7
2001 Charles Johnson: 7
2004 Hee-Seop Choi: 6
1998 Derrek Lee: 6
1997 Moises Alou: 6Bell’s are the most for a Marlin whose 1st 18 games came outside of April https://t.co/QfYC3pmVmB

Other players on the list include Hee-Seop Choi, Derrek Lee, and Moises Alou.
All three of them hit six home runs in their first 18 games as members of the Marlins.
Choi accomplished the feat in 2004 while Alou and Lee accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998, respectively.
Bell’s home runs are the most for a Marlins player whose first 18 games with the team came outside of the month of April.
And so, Bell has made Marlins history in two elite categories.
He tied Johnson for the most through his first 18 games with the team and set a record for most home runs through his first 18 games that came after the month of April.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Marlins to overcome the Padres, but Bell has certainly been swinging a hot bat as of late.
