The Indianapolis Colts took a huge swing in the 2023 NFL Draft when they decided to take Anthony Richardson No. 4 overall.
Richardson possesses great physical tools, though he is a raw prospect as he only appeared in 24 games across three seasons while at Florida.
The lack of game reps is a little concerning, but the Colts must have been enamored with Richardson’s arm strength, size, and physicality at the quarterback position.
The rookie is also capable of making plays with his legs which has become a trend in the NFL as dual-threat quarterbacks are in higher demand.
With those two skills, Richardson has all the tools to be successful in the league though he’ll need more time to develop in order to reach his ceiling.
When watching Richardson, it’s hard not to compare him to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen who recently praised the Colts quarterback’s throwing mechanics via The Pat McAfee Show.
“I got my mechanics digitally mapped and it changed my life.. Anthony Richardson did it too and his mechanics are up there,” Allen said.

In the clip, Allen says it’s fun to watch Richardson throw the ball because of his technique and later reveals that he sought out the digital mapping process after his second year.
Allen goes into detail about how the technology helped him tweak some of his throwing mechanics which also helps explain how Richardson has looked good throwing at the professional level.
Indianapolis took a gamble on grabbing Richardson when they did, but if he realizes his potential then they’ll have a superstar on their hands.
