One of the things that separates Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez from other sluggers is his ability to avoid strikeouts.
He is one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball after making contact while being one of the least vulnerable sluggers out there.
It’s truly a rare combination, one that makes him a great among greats.
That’s why it’s so surprising to see him strike out multiple occasions in the same game.
It’s so rare that it hadn’t happened this year for him: until yesterday.
“It took until today – Game 59 – for José Ramírez to strike out multiple times in the same game. Meanwhile, there are 17 players who have struck out multiple times in 20+ games this season. There are 161 players who have struck out multiple times in 10+ games this season,” The Athletic’s Zack Meisel tweeted about the slugger.

The 29-year-old MVP candidate is currently sporting a healthy 7.4 percent strikeout rate, an elite number that almost has no precedent in today’s game.
Chad Kuhl Of The Rockies Did The Impossible
Chad Kuhl of the Colorado Rockies was the man who achieved the impossible: striking out Ramirez twice in the same game.
There should be a statue in his honor outside of Coors Field.
All kidding aside, what he did was incredibly difficult.
However, it’s hard to completely shut down Ramirez: he is just too good.
The switch-hitter doubled in the first inning and thus secured extra-base hits in his last eight games, another impressive feat for him.
As long as Ramirez is healthy and playing at this level (he is slashing .306/.399/.649 with 16 homers and 11 steals), the Guardians will have a chance at making the playoffs.
Ramirez is just on another level.
