The New York Yankees had a terrific trade deadline, making impact additions at several positions.
They brought in Frankie Montas, Lou Trivino, Andrew Benintendi, Scott Effross, and Harrison Bader.
To get Bader, however, they had to give up left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery.
Value-wise, Bader for Montgomery is a fair trade.
However, it was shocking to see the Yanks subtract from their pitching depth, the one they had addressed with Montas.
When healthy, Bader can make a huge difference in center field.
However, Montgomery was having a fine season, with a 3.69 ERA in 114.2 innings, and the Yankees will now have to go with Domingo German in their rotation because Luis Severino is injured.
Montgomery was drafted and developed by the Yankees.
It’s Hard To Say Goodbye
He has spent his entire career in the Bronx, so it’s hard for him to say goodbye.
He thanked the organization and fans for the love and support throughout his career, and expressed excitement about his new chapter as a St. Louis Cardinal.

The MLB calendar has the Cardinals and the Yankees facing off for a three-game set this weekend in St. Louis.
Can you guess who is pitching Saturday’s game for the redbirds?
Yes, Montgomery.
The first start of his career in a uniform different than the Yankees’ will be against them.
The Cards were desperate for pitching help at the deadline, and New York always wanted a defense-first center fielder who is not a zero with the bat.
That’s Bader.
The problem is that Bader is currently dealing with plantar fasciitis and won’t be back before September.
Montgomery, on the other hand, is ready to start a new chapter.
