After being fired as head coach of the New York Jets, Robert Saleh is reportedly joining the Green Bay Packers as a member of Matt LaFleur’s staff.
LaFleur helped Saleh get his foot in the door in his coaching career, and Saleh will have a role in the Packers offense despite his history as a defensive coach, which includes four seasons as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator.
Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love said having a defensive coach helping the offense will be beneficial in terms of preparing for coverages the team may face.
“Having a defensive mind talking offense and helping us with things he might be able to see, some of our scheme stuff, things the defense might be looking for, it helps,” Love said, via Ryan Wood of USA Today Network.

In New York, Saleh coached one of the NFL’s better defenses, and now he’s joining a team that seems to have plenty of potential.
The Packers were expected to have a rough 2023 season after trading quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Jets, but Love, in his first season as a starter, blossomed and got the team an unexpected playoff berth and an impressive blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round.
Love, who suffered a knee injury in Week 1 this season, struggled in his return but has improved his efficiency in his past two games.
This season, he has completed 61.5 percent of his pass attempts and thrown for 1,351 yards and 15 touchdowns, although he’s also tied for the most interceptions in the league with eight.
The Packers are 5-2 heading into their Week 8 game at the Jacksonville Jaguars, which means they’re within striking distance of being able to finish first in a very competitive NFC North.
