Jordan Love was once thought to be heir to Aaron Rodgers‘ throne for the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay moved up in the NFL Draft to select him in the first-round.
However, that move would start drama in Green Bay, as Rodgers didn’t approve the move.
Love now sits on the bench for the Packers in 2022 in an impossible situation for himself.
During the 2021 season, Love got to start one game for the Packers.
The young quarterback’s outing was disappointing.
He would go 19 for 34 with 190 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
That performance would hurt his stock going into 2022.
Love Showed He’s Not Yet Ready To Be A Starter
With NFL teams needing a starting quarterback, Love ruled himself out with how he played.
However, he could improve if he were given a chance to play more games.
But that won’t happen in Green Bay with Rodgers signing a contract extension.
He won’t see action in 2022 unless Rodgers goes down with an injury.

His contract is also up after 2023, unless Green Bay picks up his fifth-year option.
Rodgers’ contract keeps him with the team until the end of the 2026 season.
That means he will be guaranteed to be in Green Bay longer than Love.
Love was supposedly the franchise’s future quarterback when Green Bay drafted him.
However, he now will serve only as a backup to Rodgers.
Love’s Rookie Contract Makes Him A Bargain Back Up Quarterback
The remaining two years on Love’s rookie contract make him a bargain for the Packers.
This year’s cap hit for the young quarterback is only $3.377 million, with 2023 only costing the team $3.94 million.
That makes Love a value back up quarterback in the NFL for 2022.
His contract value puts the Packers in a position to keep him for those two years.
Cap space was a major issue for the team coming into the 2022 NFL season.
Now that the Packers have traded Davante and may run into cap space issues, I think there are legit arguments to be made for all three options. What will be the most lopsided Wisconsin-Illinois pro sports rivalry the next 5 years?

It would be those issues that force the team to release and trade players.
With Love’s contract being cap friendly, the Packers are wise to keep him around.
Should Love Stay In Green Bay Or Leave When His Contract Expires?
Love thought he would take over one day in Green Bay.
However, that might never happen to him.
He needs to make a decision that’s best for him.
It will be hard for him to land a starting job in the NFL outside of Green Bay.
That is because of his limited experience as a starting quarterback.
However, Green Bay might give him the reigns to the team when Rodgers retires.
But he would need to re-sign with the team when his contract expires.
If he takes that chance with Green Bay, there’s still a chance they won’t make him a starting quarterback.
However, his best chances are with Green Bay.
They know him the best and can help develop him into the quarterback they desire.
But that takes patience from both Love and Green Bay.
Love has plenty of time to think things through before deciding to stay with Green Bay or leaving for another team.
