The Green Bay Packers‘ defense couldn’t get a stop to secure a win in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
As such, they needed their quarterback to do the heavy lifting.
Notably, Jordan Love answered the call with one of the best games of his career.
He moved the ball and was efficient for the most part.
That’s why Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report gave Love an A for his performance.
“During the ‘Sunday Night Football’ shootout that ultimately led to a tie, the Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love must have looked toward the European team from this year’s Ryder Cup as inspiration because his short game was on point. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Love completed a staggering 28 of 28 passes under 10 air yards, which is six more than any other quarterback without an incompletion since the start of the 2016 campaign. He spread the ball everywhere, with 10 different targets managing at least one catch. Aside from a blindside strip-sack, Love did everything he could to lift his team when the Packers defense didn’t have the same stingy streak previously seen through the first three weeks,” Sobleski wrote.
Granted, not being able to win the game was disappointing.
Head coach Matt LaFleur was too conservative down the stretch, and the defense failed to contain Dak Prescott’s deep throws throughout.
Also, it was the second time in as many weeks that their special teams allowed a blocked kick, and those two points surrendered on a PAT return may have cost them the victory.
Coordinator Rich Bisaccia has a lot of work to do to improve one of the worst units in the game, and the coaching staff as a whole has to do better.
Hopefully, the Packers will get offensive linemen Aaron Banks and Zach Tom back from injury for Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, as that will help them further establish the run.
Love has faced plenty of criticism in his career, but fans have to give credit where it’s due, and he’s playing like a legitimate MVP candidate right now.
