Joe Mazzulla knows his Boston Celtics aren’t playing like they’re supposed to, but he truly believes things will get better.
While speaking with ESPN about his team’s current situation against the New York Knicks, Mazzulla pledged to fix what’s wrong and put his team back on track.
“You can’t just have a pride and entitlement that we’re holier than now, that we’re not allowed to be down 0-2,” Mazzulla said. “This is the situation that we’re in. So we have to have an understanding of why we’re in it and we got to fix it, and we have an opportunity to fix that.”
For all of 2024-25, the Celtics have created a formula that has worked for them.
For example, they have been known to create an onslaught of three-point shots, often winning games based on how well they have done from beyond the arc.
They are following that same approach right now, but, sadly, it isn’t working in their favor.
The three-point shooting just hasn’t been there for Boston, and the Knicks have taken full advantage of that.
But there are other problems plaguing the reigning champions.
Kristaps Porzingis has been unwell for the series, and Jayson Tatum has been a mess on offense.
All of this has added up to a big 2-0 hole for the Celtics, and they need that to change as quickly as possible.
Mazzulla believes in his players, and he knows they have what it takes to look much better.
But that will require multiple fixes in several different parts of their game.
He has numerous brilliant players on his roster, but there is only one person who can lead the Celtics out of this mess.
Mazzulla and his stars will have to step up in a huge way in Game 3, or this season is just about over.
