As the 2022-23 NBA regular season is nearing its end, the debate rages on about which superstar in the league should be named NBA MVP.
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid made a statement this week after his incredible performance in the win over the Boston Celtics.
Embiid put together quite the stat line against the Celtics, as he scored 52 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out six assists and blocked two shots while missing only five shots (20-for-25).
Many pundits, like Jim Rome of CBS Sports, believe this performance against the title-contending Celtics ended the MVP race.

With Nikola Jokic getting crushed by the lowly Houston Rockets and losing by 21 points last night, Embiid’s impressive night against Boston sticks out even more and adds to his case for the regular-season award.
Even though Embiid may be leading the charge for MVP right now for some, it will all come down to the voters and what they decide to do when they submit their ballots for the regular-season awards.
Only three regular-season games remain on the schedule for the 76ers and Nuggets, with this MVP race coming down to the wire for Embiid and Jokic.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out in this highly controversial award race and if Embiid has done enough to knock Jokic off the top spot in the league.
Otherwise, it’ll likely be the Nuggets superstar lifting the newly dubbed Michael Jordan Trophy when it’s all said and done, which will be the third straight time he’s won the regular-season award.
