It would be an understatement to say that the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions have endured a lot in their history.
That’s why it’s easy to root for them now that they’re finally good.
People always like to root for an underdog.
And while they’re not the typical underdog, they might be the two teams with the strongest chance to take down the Kansas City Chiefs, the back-to-back defending champions and the team everybody wants to beat.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Jim Nantz claimed that whoever won between them on Sunday afternoon would now be crowned as America’s Team (via NFL on CBS).
"I think that the winner of this game is the new "America's Team.'"

Of course, Dallas Cowboys fans might not love that statement, but there could be some truth to it.
The Cowboys have reached a new low this season, up to the point that the Carolina Panthers were favored ahead of a game for the first time in two years.
Granted, they still might be America’s Team in terms of popularity and being a huge sports market, but not for what they do on the gridiron.
The Lions and Bills will be two of the strongest contenders in the playoffs.
But even though there’s not a postseason ticket at stake in this game, these teams will still leave it all on the field.
They know just how crucial it is to get the No. 1 spot in the conference, and more than that, this could even be a Super Bowl preview, so they will approach this game as such.
