The Indianapolis Colts are on their second quarterback in as many seasons.
And neither quarterback is the one they expected to be lining up under center each week for the past two seasons.
Andrew Luck was their man who had his share of injuries but bounced back to have an outstanding 2018 season.
That’s why the Colts organization and the NFL at large were shell-shocked at Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement right before the 2019 season.
Andrew Luck is retiring after seven seasons:
🔹 2012 No. 1 overall NFL draft pick
🔹 171 touchdown passes
🔹 23,671 yards
🔹 4 Pro Bowls
🔹 2018 NFL AP Comeback Player of the Year
🔹 53-33 recordMade the most of his time in the NFL 🙏

It’s not uncommon for players to change their minds about retirement, and Luck is only 31 so he could definitely still come back and play.
Irsay was asked recently if he thought Luck would ever come back.
“You know, I don’t think so — I really don’t. I think that door’s closed.”
Colts QB Situation
Despite an announcement that could have put the organization in a complete tailspin, the Colts have managed to be okay.
In 2019 QB Jacoby Brissett led the team to a 7-9 record.
This past offseason, the Colts signed Chargers legend Philip Rivers to a 1 year deal.
Rivers has led the team to an 8-4 result so far this season, and they are knocking on the playoff door.
Both Brissett and Rivers are only contracted through the end of this season, and the Colts have not announced what plans they have for the QB position in 2021.
That makes reflections on Andrew Luck and what could have been even more appropriate in December 2020.

It also stokes the discussion about a potential reunion with Carson Wentz and Frank Reich.
Wentz has struggled in Philadelphia pretty much since Reich left as offensive coordinator to come to Indy.
Now that he is benched for rookie Jalen Hurts, will he be in Philly next year?
He is working under a huge contract so if he comes to Indy, there will be financial ramifications.
But there is no doubt that Wentz played his best football in Philadelphia when Frank Reich was the offensive coordinator.
As a side note, the Colts do have one quarterback under contract next season; he is rookie Jacoby Eason selected in the 4th round of the 2020 draft (122nd overall).
What Is Andrew Luck Doing Now?
He still has a home in Indianapolis.
Since his retirement, he became a father.
His daughter Lucy is 1 year old.
By all accounts, Luck, his wife, and child are making the most of their time together.
He still maintains contact with his former teammates.
When T.Y. Hilton was asked about Luck recently, he said:
“Coming back? I don’t know. He’s pretty happy in retirement life. He’s just enjoying it and enjoying it with his daughter, Lucy. I don’t think we will (see him). He’s just enjoying himself. I’m happy for him.”
Colts Remaining Schedule
The best way to forget about the ghosts of quarterbacks past is for the Colts to make the playoffs under Philip Rivers.
Currently, the Colts are precariously hanging on to the 7th and final playoff spot in the AFC.
Their remaining four games are at Las Vegas, home against Houston, at Pittsburgh, and home against Jacksonville.
Because the AFC playoff picture is so tight, the Colts have to approach each week as a must-win situation.
That could be a tall order especially with 11-1 Pittsburgh on the schedule so the pressure is on.
