On paper, the New York Jets made all the right moves to be a Super Bowl contender this season.
In reality, nothing went their way.
Notably, that includes trading for Davante Adams.
The prospect of having him reunited with Aaron Rodgers and adding more firepower opposite Garrett Wilson seemed enticing at the time.
Unfortunately, it didn’t translate into more wins or even an improvement to the passing game.
The uncertainty about Rodgers’ future and steep salary has now put a big question mark over his head and his future with the organization.
In a recent sit-down with the media, the former Green Bay Packers star admitted that as much as he would like to stay in New York, he’d also be open to playing somewhere else (via Ian Rapoport):
“I’d love to go to war with these guys, but it’s a business and there are a lot of pieces, contractually, and, obviously, with Aaron’s future — a lot of things that I can’t control,” Adams said.
Adams is about to make north of $35 million next season, and the Jets would be wise to either re-do his contract or let him walk away.
He’s well aware of that, and he pretty much controls his destiny at this point.
Through six games with the Jets, Adams has hauled 31 receptions on 58 targets.
He’s logged 344 receiving yards, a pedestrian 57.3 per game.
He also has two touchdown receptions, which is slightly disappointing.
A lack of weaponry wasn’t what was holding Aaron Rodgers back.
The future Hall of Famer has looked like a shell of himself this season, and the Jets, just like Adams, will have to make some tough decisions this offseason.
