Even though he was heavily linked with a move to the New Orleans Saints, Derek Carr has now been strongly tied to the New York Jets instead.
Carr visited the Jets facility and reportedly hit it off with HC Robert Saleh.
Both parties liked what they saw, and with Carr becoming a cheaper option than Aaron Rodgers, there’s a strong possibility that the Jets will shift their attention to the former Las Vegas Raiders star.
That’s why NFL insider Peter Schwartz pointed out that Carr might have to change his jersey number if he decides to sign with the Jets.
Jets CB DJ Reed currently wears no. 4, so Schwartz hoped that Carr would switch to no. 14 instead, so he could recycle his Sam Darnold jersey.
However, Reed took to Twitter to let everybody know that he wouldn’t mind switching numbers at the right price, also making it clear that he would love to have Carr on the team.

Of course, you have to hate that if you’re Zach Wilson, but it’s just the reality of their situation right now.
The former second-overall pick looks like a generational bust at this point, and only a miracle would get him another chance to play for the Jets.
Carr would be a major improvement for a team that was pretty close to clinching a playoff berth, but whose poor QB play cost them a ticket.
So, will Carr make Reed an offer? Or will he take another number in NY? We’ll have to wait and see.
