After superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury in the first game of the season against the division-rival Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets’ hopes of contending for a title came crashing down, as the team couldn’t replace what the veteran quarterback does under center.
With the NFL season officially in the books for the Jets, with New York missing the playoffs entirely, the attention has turned back to Rodgers and the quarterback position heading into the offseason.
Rodgers has already let it be known that he has no intention of retiring and wants to return to the Jets next season, but the concern will be having a formidable backup behind him, which is something general manager Joe Douglas addressed on Monday.
Douglas claims he had a “good conversation” with Zach Wilson but made no assurances that he would be back, via Jets Videos on Twitter.
Joe Douglas was asked about the quarterback situation for next season:
"Obviously Aaron is going to be back, which is going to be positive… I had a good conversation with Zach… We're going to do what's best for our team." pic.twitter.com/mrIVXL5w5J

Although Wilson had his moments at times during the 2023 NFL regular season, he clearly isn’t the right man for the job under center in New York, even if it is to backup Rodgers next season.
That said, the Jets will likely do their due diligence on finding a veteran quarterback during the offseason who can back-up Rodgers during the 2024 campaign.
Only time will tell what moves the team will make during the offseason, as it’s clear the Jets brass have a lot of work to do to put the best possible team around Rodgers in order to reach title-contending status in the AFC moving forward.
