The Dallas Cowboys made a surprising move to many fans at the beginning of the offseason by releasing Ezekiel Elliott.
Elliott has been a cornerstone of this offense and is consistently rated as one of the league’s top running backs.
By placing the franchise tag on Tony Pollard, the organization made its commitment well-known.
They were slated to enter the season with Pollard as their lead back, with Ronald Jones as his backup.
Jones was recently suspended for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy and will be out for the first two games of the season.
This leaves the team without a viable backup, which could lead to a potential reunion with Elliott.
According to Jerry Jones’ recent comments via Cowboys reporter Jon Machota, “He’s [Elliott] not ruled out at all.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said "We're reading the tea leaves" when asked about possibility of re-signing Ezekiel Elliott after Ronald Jones' suspension. Jones on Elliott: "He's not ruled out at all."

Despite the Cowboys’ unwillingness to sign Elliott to a multi-year contract, they could bring him in for a one-year deal.
The main question that Elliott needs to ask himself is whether it would be worthwhile to rejoin the team that released him.
When this has happened previously, players have shown animosity toward their organizations.
Elliott hasn’t publically expressed unhappiness with the Cowboys.
He hasn’t gained much traction with other teams in free agency.
Will he end up going back to the Cowboys for the 2023 season?
That remains to be seen.
With the season slated to begin in a few short weeks, the Cowboys are running out of time to sign a Jones replacement.
For a team that has high expectations, they need to move quickly.
